Let’s go!

Starting point is the Landesmuseum in Birkenfeld. This route runs parallel with "Wasserträume" to the old Abentheur ironworks. From there, you pass Buhlenberg on the edge of the forest and continue up to Rinzenberg with its charming old farmhouses and cast-iron fountains. Iron-rich water bubbles up in the Sauerbrunnen near Oberhambach. A short walk to the nearby Petersquelle is quite a rewarding break. The route leads through the scenic Hambach valley up to the Sirona Pavilion near Schmißberg. From here you return to Birkenfeld along the reconstructed Roman Road. At the end of the tour you have the opportunity to learn about the history of the iron workers from the Celtic era to the industrial age.
